Scoring/Shooting:

Very capable scorer, although his rate was down last year as he became even more of a role player. Can take any power forward off the dribble where he plays primarily now. Clearly prefers to go left. Uses his point guard like handle and good first step to get to the basket. Has a passable post game and can score inside with skill.  More smooth than explosive. Odom  is just average athletically but is too quick for most power forwards. Is not a consistent shooter and not a good shooter off the dribble. He'll make open jumpers and has range and a good stroke but his shot tends to be flat. Slightly bellow averge three point shooter. Poor free throw shooter who experienced a career low in 08-09.

Rebounding:

Odom is a very good rebounder even if you consider him an under powered power forward. Is especially solid on the defensive board as he gives the effort and will always look to box-out.

Passing/Ballhandling:

Lamar really has no equal at power forward when it comes to ball handling. He is a terrific passer who uses his length to see the floor and has a pass first mentality. His decision making can be shaky but overall he has the vision to play the point forward type of role. Has fit in well in the Lakers triangle offense. Is a great ballhandler who can make plays in transition with his dribble.

Defense:

Odom is an underrated defensive player. Very aggresive with a high foul rate but gives the effort and plays tough. Can guard multiple positions and does a good job staying with his man, keeping him in front and works very hard defensively. Can create turnovers on the ball. Is solid off the ball with good shot blocking despite being a below average leaper. Plays the passing lanes intelligently and will hit the floor to get the ball.

Intangibles:

Odom has blossomed into a dependable pro. His inconsistency can be frustrating as he can go into funks where he plays poorly for weeks at a time. Also had a tough time last season making free throws down the stretch. However was pretty much on during the playoffs and played well. Shed the soft label along the way. Laid back and is popular with teammates and brings an unselfish nature and game to court.

Synopsis:

Odom is an extremely skilled and talented NBA player. Blessed with good but not elite physical tools but makes up for it with a versatile skill set. Now in his prime, if he could be more consistent he'd be more highly ragarded. As it stands now earned a ring as a very valuable player on a championship team.
